Four things worth doing — and the first one is usually the thing people get wrong.

Look in the attic on a cold morning. Frost on the nails or the boards is the clearest sign there is.
Check whether the soffit vents are blocked by insulation pushed into the eaves. It is extremely common and it is the usual cause.
Say if bathroom fans vent into the attic rather than outside. That is a separate fault and it does real damage.
Ask for intake and exhaust to be quoted together, not one without the other.
